Daniel Hamlin, Jr. | Daniel Hamlin, Jr. was born on November 8, 1913 to Daniel and Martha L. Hamlin, Sr. of 841 Laurel Street in Delanco; Brother of George and Ralph Hamlin. Dan worked as a painter in civilian life and never married. He was regarded as a baseball star in his youth, a noted pitcher on the Riverside and Delanco AA and Jersey Tigers baseball teams. He joined the US Army in January 1941 at age 26 at the outset of WWII. He trained at Fort Bragg. He was assigned to D Co, 39th Inf, 9th Div and fought in France and the African-Sicilian Campaign. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Daniel was a veteran of the African-Sicilian Campaign. and was late Killed in Action in France on July 18, 1944 . He was awarded the Purple Heart. He is buried in Monument Cemetery in Beverly.
